Study in Australia

The Student visa subclass 500 allows a student to live, work and study in Australia for a maximum of five years, in line with their course. Student can bring their family members to Australia during the study permit.

To study in Australia, all foreign citizens are required to obtain an Australian student visa. They will need to demonstrate to the Department of Home Affairs that meet all necessary requirements to get the visa which includes Genuine temporary entrant requirements, Financial requirements, English proficiency requirements & Health checks.

A student visa is required for any Indian student who wishes to study in Australia (subclass 500). This visa is intended for students who are fully prepared to continue their higher education in Australia.
 

• Step no 1: Apply for a recognized institute and take a COE

The foremost step is to enroll or register at a recognized Australian university or institute. Once the applicant receives an offer letter from the institute, he should pay a tuition fee for his registration to be accepted. The institute will then send a CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment), which is required to begin the visa application process. For more than one study program, the applicant requires CoE for every single course.
 

• Step No 2: Create an Account with the Immigration Authorities of Australia

It is an online process an applicant has to visit https://online.immi.gov.au/lusc/register and create an account there. Or student can each out for assistance from Authroised Representatives of universities / institutes to support their Visa application (can hyperlink MMS)
 

• 
  Step No 3: Complete the Visa Application process Online

It is an online portal: https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1/500-. The process has to be made at least 124 days prior to the course starts mentioned on the COE.

The applicant has to then submit all required documents online ie: his/her family details, personal details, answers regarding the previous education or work experience, health records, and Financials which include bank statements, OSHC, a valid passport,4 visa application forms, statement of purpose with evidence of GAPS in the study if any and any other additional supporting documents for this visa
 

• Step No 4: Submit the Visa application

Once the visa application has been submitted successfully, an applicant has to pay the visa fee of 630 AUD. The embassy will then allocate a TRN (Transaction Reference Number) for the application, with which the status can be tracked online.

 

• Step No 5: Generate a HAP Id/ Health Checks

Every foreign student will be required to do a complete health check-up. This information will be received after the visa application has been submitted. TRN is necessary to take a HAP Id to get the medical checks done. For the Health checks, the list of authorized /certified doctors is given on the embassy website.
 

• Step No 6: Interview by the Embassy

The interview of the applicant is not a mandated process by the embassy but again if the embassy wants to talk to the applicant they may call him on the given contact number to take an interview.
 

• Step No 7:  Visa processing time & Decision

Usually, a visa takes 1 to 5 working days however in some periods due to large volume of applications it can take up to around 4 to 12 weeks to decide the case. The decision to refuse or grant the visa application is based on the documentation and information provided by the applicant at the time of application submission. Also, the embassy can raise a request for a particular document or any application-related information and it depends on how promptly a student can reply to the information raised by the dept.

Some of the key documents / requirements whichthe student needs to submit all the below docs with his application

1.

2. A valid passport –all pages
3. Electronic CoE (Confirmation of Enrolment by the institution)
4. OSHC is a health insurance
5. A visa application form
6. 4 passport-sized photos
7. Statement of purpose
8. English proficiency test i.e. IELTS / TOEFL IBT, Pearson Test of English (PTE), and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE).

Note:  A few other documents will be required depending on the region a candidate applies from and the institute he/she is going to study at, which are:

1. The applicant's birth certificate
2. One-year financials which include Bank statements that serve as evidence of financial ability along with Income of the sponsor’s funds includes (including living expenses, tuition fees, andreturn airfare) and Proof of earlier employment pay slips, employment contract, etc.

Any student from India, who desires to study in Australia, requires to show Financial which includes Evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition, travel, and living costs. The amount you need to prove you have for living costs (separate from tuition and Travel) is set at AU$21040 (INR 1178240) for a year for a student, for a dependent applicant (Spouse) the living is AUD 7382 (INR 413392)and dependent child is AUD 3152 (INR 176512).

The 1-year Tuition fee is roughly around AUD 16000 to AUD 44000 depending on the institute and travels AUD 2000.

The length of the visa is based on the course length you are going to study usually, Australian student visas are valid for a maximum of 5 years. Primary school children enrolled in years 1-4 are generally issued student visas for a maximum validity period of 3 years.
